Thank you ICAN for a very pleasurable 5 years in my life. As the treasurer of this incrediable organization, I feel the strong urgancy to express how I feel and how much of a(n) impact that this organization alone has made in my life. We all know we are human and my favorite saying is "We are not stupid people; we just do stupid things", I have done things that I sincerely regret in my life and things I wish I could take back , but unfortunatly I can't. My mental illness has had taken me places where I would not dare go back, but looking back it took me there so I Sabrina could learn lessons' not other wised learned. I thought I was the only person out there that suffered from MPD, DID, PTSD, PPD, BPD, as well as depression and anxiety. When I found ICAN my life was in shambles and I was only a outline of my former self. I got connected with people who(m) changed my life and will remain in my heart until my heart stops beating. THIS GIRL SURVIVED AND I WILL KEEP GOING NO MATTER WHO, WHAT, WHERE, OR WHY tries to bring me down it won't. Let no one take your dreams ambitions, we are all in this together and I see all ICAN has done for me and still is. ICAN may not have a permenitt home phyiscally, but in our hearts that is where ICAN is, ICAN is just that people coming together for the better good, to help people like our selves who are at were we been and to try to take people places where they never thought imaginable. JUST IMAGINE< ICAN!!!)))

Hey ya'll,

Hey everyone. Well Harry asked me to blog so I'm going to. I just got nominated to Vice-President of the Board of ICAN. As Vice-President I will try to help Harry as much as humanly possible with the work of trying to keep ICAN running. Another thing is that Sabrina is now Treasurer, so that is a cool thing. Well, I will write more later.

Liz

ICAN over its 17+ year history has given back to the community at large in many ways while giving MH consumers a voice. An ICAN member was responsible for starting CST in Lancaster while working with CST in Montgomery County. Other members have moved on to work in other areas of the MH system as working professionals. ICAN by its very design is by consumers and for consumers each bringing their own individual influence and opinion. During our past we have overall maintained a positive working relationship with other organizations and MH/MR, indeed with MH/MR as our primary funding source in our history, we were a self governing MH/MR provider. For roughly the past year we were without a contract and therefore MH/MR funding. This has caused a great deal of pain to the few brave souls who still “carry the torch” if you will. Whether we regain funding and a contract or remain without one, we will always be working with the MH/MR provider system. The closer we work with that system, the louder our voices will be heard. The more funds available the more consumers we can help serve, this will require us to continue to seek out other funding sources as well. This is especially true during our current dilemma when government funding is being cut back and so many Americans are suffering as a result.
Harry Nestorick, President of ICAN in Lancaster

We are always looking for people willing to give tax deductible donations to a great cause.
Please send donations to:
ICAN in Lancaster
P.O. Box 148
Lancaster, Pa. 17608

If ICAN maintains a voice in the community it should be independent of the MH/MR provider system. Consumers may easily lose ground in assessing
the state of mental health.
Egon de Uriarte 2/10/07
